Hamel is a jerk. That said, Hamel is also a very good person.
Hamel does not want people to like him. As far as he's concerned, people liking him is always and forever a bad things for reasons best left unmentioned. Not only that, but he doesn't trust easily even if they do seem to like him, so that whole 'getting friendly' thing just isn't anything he wants to be involved with generally. On top of that, he's conceited, selfish, impatient, foolhardy, quick-tempered, and he can be one hell of a major bastard.
But he's a good person.
For all that he'll try and get money or supplies out of a village for his services in monster killing, there are never any consequences should they choose not to. If it's a matter of anyone being harmed, he will step in and do his part. He will take abuse if it means saving another person pain even if he doesn't necessarily know them. He'll let people hurt him without lashing out at them. And while he's a jerk and a bastard to people individually, his eventual goal is to go to the north to defeat Kestra so that everyone's lives will be better.
Quirks:
Hamel likes ridiculously complicated plans, using disguises, making deals, and throwing his allies at his enemies. Cause, uh... it might be effective? He comes up with the most ridiculous leaps of logic, he tends to overreact comically to everything and his canon has a problem with keeping the fourth wall in tact EVER. Take anything he says with a grain of salt because he's a grade A jackass.
On the other side of things (the more serious side), Hamel is the "Blood and Flesh of the Demon King". If his life is threatened or if he's put into extreme emotional distress, this blood can overpower his sense and concern for others and come out in the form of a three-horned, winged beast with massive talons. ...we recommend getting the hell out of the way at this point.
Appearance:
Generally, Hamel will always look like the picture above. The hat? NEVER COMES OFF. Touch the hat, or indicate you might touch the hat, and he will threaten violence. Along with the wacky outfit and the giant violin, he's got his little black bird, Oboe.
If Hamel should go into his demonic form (which, BAAAAAAAD), it looks like this (art by pu_sama). It gets worse and worse and HOLYFUCKINGGOD worse.
Magical Music:
Hamel is a magical musician.
Magical music utilizes the intent, the inspirations, and the emotions of musical pieces and combined with the will and intent of the musician, affects change. Magical music can do anything from summon spirits to laying ghosts to rest, everything from pulling up the protective potential in a mother to pulling out the murderer withing the darkest corners of the heart, everything from creating spinning swords for the "Sabre Dance" to making someone dance like a monkey. Hamel can perform magical music with any instrument, from a grass flute to his violin, but he is most effective with the violin.
One of the most effective skills involves bringing out the potential power of another person in order to fight for him. Called a Marionette Version, this has an almost 'Super Saiyan' affect on the person in question but it does have a price: a couple of years off of their natural life span and TERRIBLE cramps a few minutes after.
Obviously, no magical music will be used on your pup without permission. I'll try to provide a copy of the song in .mp3 or midi format, as well as the intent and history of the pieces as it's part of canon; your pup's reaction is entirely up to you.
